Session 4: Leveraging Technology to Innovate

Date: Thursday 26 April 12 - 03:15 pm to 04:15 pm

Type: Interactive sessions

Innovation is not just a factor of investment in R&D - innovation is also dependent on how effectively the best minds can be connected. All too often they are currently buried under hierarchical and tayloristic organization structures. We will not save our way out of the crisis - we need to innovate it. The old ways are not adequate for creating the growth that is so badly needed for Europe. We need to enhance the innovation capabilities in Europe in a systemic way.  Innovation needs skills and competenices and an environment conducive to innovation and entrepreneurial behaviours. ICT has the potential to be a major enabler of improving innovation systems by bundling the capabilities of all participants in the process across the ecosystem in a real time learning process.  Are we up to grasping this opportunity at a European level? Are we getting closer to use technology as an accelerator for innovation? Can it be demonstrated? Or, what would it take to reach this next frontier of the "Knowledge society"?
